Communication for Development Specialist

Under the daily supervision of the WASH Specialist and in consultation with the Communication for Development (CAD) section, the incumbent is responsible to provide strategic guidance, technical inputs and design and production oversight for UNICIEF's WASH communication interventions in child environment programme and for supporting the Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Drinking Water Supply's relevant behavioral change programmes and initiatives.
Minimum Requirements: Advanced university degree in the social/ behavioural sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, Health Education, communication) with emphasis on participatory communication, communication planning, social mobilization, participatory research, training and impact evaluation of communication interventions. Minimum five years progressively responsible work experience in the planning and management of social development programmes, with practical experience in the adaptation and application of communication planning processes to specific programmes, especially sanitation and hygiene. Experience in life skills education and peer-to-peer approaches preferred. Knowledge of current developments in the fields of communication theory, motivational psychology, adult learning theory, indigenous media, community organization and participation. Drive for Results. Training in strategic communication planning, behaviour analysis, formative research and evaluation of communication interventions. Current expert knowledge of latest developments and issues related to water, sanitation and hygiene. Proven skills in communication, networking, advocacy and negotiation. Ability to organize and implement training, including development of curricula and methodologies. Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships, both within and outside the organization. Fluency in English and Hindi in speaking, reading and writing essential. knowledge of other main Indian languages an asset.
