Social Development Adviser
Background
The Department for International Development (DFID) is the Government of United Kingdom's department (http://www.dfid.gov.uk) responsible for leading the effort to eliminate global poverty. Given that a third of the world's poor live in India, UK sees it to be critical to work with the Government of India towards achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The India programme is DFID's largest bilateral programme, with a current annual spend of approximately E280 million. DFID supports large programmes at the national level and has partnership with 5 focus states, which are Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh. Most of our programmes are designed and implemented in close partnership with Government of India, UN agencies and CIVIL society Organisations.

Qualification and Experience
A post-graduate degree in a social science discipline such as anthropology, sociology, political science, social policy, human geography or equivalent. A minimum of 4 years of experience of working as a social analyst in a developing or transition country, including social research experience.
S/he will have strong knowledge and experience of the following: social and political analysis of poverty and impact of programmes and policies on marginalized women and other socially and economically disadvantaged groups; advocacy, facilitation and negotiation. S/he will be self-motivated, a persuasive communicator in both verbal and written English, comfortable and capable of working at al levels of government and civil society and results-focused. A working knowledge of impact assessment methods would be advantage. The successful candidates will be appointed on the basis of an open ended contract. Applicants from govt/quasi-govt organizations will need to confirm in their application that if selected, they can procure permission for long term leave from their parent organization.
