For Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR)
The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is an autonomous advanced study institute established by the Reserve Bank of India, the country's central bank. The Institute, located in Mumbai, India, has the mandate to carry out research on a broad range of development issues, offer insights for policy formulation and to generate informed debate from a multi-disciplinary perspective on issues deemed critical. The IGIDR also offers Post Graduate/ M.Phil./ Ph.D. programmes in economics and policy and is recognised as a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission of India. The Institute is funded by the Reserve Bank of India and undertakes projects for governments, the Reserve Bank as well as supranational institutions such as UNDP, UNCTAD, World Bank, etc.
The Institute seeks a Director who shall be the principal academic and executive officer of the Institute (with the status of Vice Chancellor of a University). The Director shall also be the ex-officio Chairman of the Academic Council and the Finance Committee and member of the Board of Management. The Director's appointment will be initially for a period of five years and he/she shall be eligible for reappointment for a further period of five years.
The key requirements for the position are exceptional leadership and institution building skills and a commanding strategic vision; the ability and drive to further the Institute's mandate in generating policy debate as well as high quality teaching, research and capacity building; management experience to work effectively and harmoniously with the key stakeholders; ambassadorial ability to represent the Institute to a wide range of audiences within the country and internationally; intellectual standing, personal presence, an understanding of and the sensitivity required for multi-disciplinary work, and the ability to enthuse, inspire and motivate the staff and students.
